What is an Enrolled Agent?

An Enrolled Agent (EA) is one who has demonstrated technical competence in the field of taxation. Enrolled Agents are licensed by the federal government and are authorized to appear in place of the taxpayer at the Internal Revenue Service.

Enrolled agents hold more professional credentials, experience, and expertise than any other tax representative.

Only Enrolled Agents, Tax Attorneys and Certified Public Accountants may represent taxpayers before the IRS in all matters including audits, collection actions and appeals.

Enrolled Agents prepare tax returns for individuals, partnerships, corporations, estates, trusts and all entities with tax-reporting requirements. Enrolled Agent’s expertise in the continually changing field of tax law enables them to effectively represent taxpayers audited by the IRS.

Enrolled Agents are required to pursue continuing education and are held accountable to a code of ethics governed by Circular 230.
